LTL Shipping

LTL stands for less than truckload shipping. When you ship using LTL you only use part of a truck to ship your product. Since you don’t use the full truck, LTL shipping is more cost effective than full truckload (FTL) shipping. Typically you split the cost of the full truck with other companies using the space.

There are many benefits to using LTL shipping including:

  • Faster shipment
  • Cost effective
  • Flexible

LTL shipping cannot be used to ship all freight, below is how you know when you should use LTL shipping.

When To Use LTL Shipping

LTL shipping, as stated previously, only uses part of a truck to ship your goods. The biggest determinate of whether LTL shipping will work for you is the size of your load.

Typically, if you load weighs between 150 and 10,000 pounds you can use LTL shipping. If your freight weighs more than 10,001 pounds then you should use FTL (full truckload) shipping. If your shipment is less than 150 pounds you can utilize standard ground shipping.
